Chapter one





The year was 1947. The day was bright, and the sun was out, but it was still cold.

There was a strong wind every now and then, blowing snow around, and stinging Holly’s face. And the skin that was showing between her gloves and coat sleeve, was red from the bitter wind.

Holly Faye walked down the busy town walkway, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was on her way to the first day of work, being an FBI agent. She handed in her applications to just about every agency office there was in Cheyenne. At the age of nine, Holly made up her mind to become a FBI agent and kept her dream since. After graduating from high school,

and from a college in Ohio, she was on her own. That’s when she handed in her applications to every place she could find. The only one to accept her application was the smallest and least well-to-do office in all of Wyoming, and probably America. But, they were desperate, and so was Holly, so she went, and maybe after working there, people would see how good she is, and accept her in the more fancy, affluent, and eminent office.



She looked up from the side walk, and saw the building she was to work in. Not very big, but not small either. She crossed the street, and walked to the parking lot. She wanted to cut through the parking lot so she could get to the door faster. Holly got to the parking lot, and there weren’t a lot of people coming and going, not so much at all. She went to cross…Honk! “Hey watch were you’re going!” a young man with blonde hair, and a hat on screamed, coming out of the drivers side window. Holly jumped back, “Sorry!” she yelled back. The man pulled in the parking lot, and chose a parking space. Holly kept walking, until she got to the door. She walked in, a little anxious, but prepared, and eager. The lobby was like a regular rhombus lobby, but you could see the end of this one. In the more efficient buildings, it was so long, lobbies were more bedecked, and fancy then this one, this lobby was, let’s just say it needed some help.

Holly went to the front desk, and met Cindy Dowl, “Hi! You must be Holly…Faye?” Holly nodded, “Yes, that’s me. Were do I need to go?” The women searched through papers that were scattered about the desk. “Umm… just hold on a minute, miss, Holly was it?” Holly watched Cindy go beneath the desk to search. “That’s my name, Holly Faye. Do you need help?”

“Oh, no, I am perfectly fine, I can find it. Ah-ha! Here we are! Here are your papers, and you will just need to show them to Al Digoronty. He will help you with the rest.” Holly nodded, and grabbed the papers from Cindy, and walked towards the stairway.

Upstairs, she had no difficulty at all finding Al Digorontys’ office. She knocked, and waited. Then, she heard a voice, which sounded older, and scruffy. “Come in, and watch the knob, it falls off at times.” Holly peeked in and walked to the desk where the man was sitting. “Ah, you must be Holly. Welcome, my name is Al Digoronty, and this is my son, Jack.”

Holly looked in the corner where the young man was sitting, and as she looked closer, she recognized him from the parking lot. It was the man who had almost hit her with his fancy car. The man smiled at her, and took of his hat to reveal blonde hair.

“Hello, I believe we met, but not properly. My name is Jack.” He put out a hand. “Holly…Holly Faye.” Holly slowly put hers out, and met with his. Then, pulling away quickly, she looked at Al, and he took out some papers. “Here, this is where your office is, which is right across from mine.”



In her office, Holly sat at the desk, which was dusty. The room was dusty; there was a filing cabinet, and a small table in the room. And the windows brought in a light that made the room look even more depressing. It was chilly in the room, and when she plopped on the chair, it exploded with dust. “Oh, this is just my luck; you would think that an FBI agency office would look much more professional than this!”

“It did.” Holly looked in the doorway, and saw Jack. “I said the same thing to my dad. But he said it was fine, besides, we don’t have time to make this place look better than the other ones.”

Holly nodded, “How long have you worked here?” Jack shrugged, “Not long. About three years. How old are you?”

“18, in February. What about you?” Jack walked to the desk, and pulled up a chair from the corner, which Holly didn’t notice before. “I just turned 20. You know there are others here, in your team, Donny, Gwen, and I.”

“You are?” Holly said. “Yep, I’m the captain of the team.” Holly nodded and rolled her eyes. Not another one. She couldn’t take it when men where leaders. They boasted and thought they knew everything!

“What is something wrong with that?” Jack said, serenely, but at the edge of his seat. Holly looked at him, “Umm, no, not really. It’s just, oh, nothing.”

Jack shrugged, and walked out of the room. “I better get back to work…this place is disgusting!”

“Tell me about it, you may have gotten the room next to the boss, but, it’s the dirtiest office in the building. Hi, I’m on your team. My name is Derek, and this is Gwen, but she is grumpy right now, so you will be better off meeting her tomorrow.”

The guy walked in the room, and behind him was Gwen. She looked well-off, and was wearing a hat that had a flower on one side, although, it was small, and fit closely around her head, and a white outfit that fit her well. And behind them, was Jack.





Chapter 2:



Gwen extended out a hand to Holly, and she took it with a smile, unlike she did with Jack. “Hi, welcome to our team. It’s not much, but, it’s here.”
